Spring Clean Your Skin

If you read my ‘acne attack’ post you’ll know that my skin had a complete Freddie Kruger freak out recently.  Oh. You don’t know who he is? I suggest you get out more. Start in the 1980’s section of the DVD store and go from there.

I’ve been thinking about this (way too much.  Sorry about all the frozen dinners) and have a theory.  Which is, that skin subscribes to the ‘variety is the spice of life’ school of thought.  (Btw my ‘theory’ is completely unsubstantiated with any scientific data or research whatsoever, so don’t take this theory to a trained medical professional, say a Dermatologist, and ‘educate’ them that this is the new thing.)

Let me drill it down for you. When I had the acne break out I used the fabulous Dermalogica mask to fix the pizza issue.  But I also thought about whether using the same products over and over again day and night was making my (ungrateful) skin bored… I almost fell asleep (from boredom) writing that sentence. So I’m sure my skin feels the same way.

There is one exception to this theory. If the products you’re using are La Mer. They are 100% fine to use continuously. Forever. Particularly if your bank if also on board and has a flexible payment plan for all other expenses. Like your mortgage.

I don’t exclusively use La Mer (our bank is not flexible. My husband chose it.) so I changed it up. I’m now using a different skincare regime for day and night.

For day? I’m using  SKII Treatment Essence (it’s good, try it) as a serum and the lovely Estee Lauder Advanced Time Zone for my eyes… Strictly on the eye contour area… I’m only specifying this because when I worked in beauty, the number of calls we had on the customer service line from sore-eyed customers after they applied eye cream directly into their eyes to brighten them was alarming. On so many levels.

SK2 & EL

For night?  I’m using (my precious) La Mer Serum and Eye Cream. I figure there’s more chance of that liquid gold working miracles (yes please) at night, especially if you train yourself to sleep flat on your back and not move at all for the entire night. During the day you could easily rub a smidgeon off just by basic life. Like putting a t-shirt on.

Skin report card? A+. So every few months, I’m going to spring clean my (day) skincare regime with a few new fab products. Why only the day routine you ask? Obviously I’m going to use La Mer at night until we run out of money/another amazing brand hits the market. Whichever happens first. Plus, this works out quite well if, like me, you love trying new products…

Also, you might want to do a quick spring clean of your make-up/skincare cupboard/drawer/bag while you’re at it. I did. I found a lilac mascara. Which used to be black…
